Weather Watch: No Jan. 31 Activities

We are closely monitoring the next round of winter weather expected this weekend for our area. Based on the forecast and after consulting with local emergency teams, all extra-curricular activities for Saturday, Jan. 31, have been canceled.

Any decision concerning our Monday school schedule will be shared with families no later than Sunday evening through email/text messages, our websites, social media, and local media stations. If you are not receiving our direct messages, please check your contact information in the Parent Portal.

5 Things to Know

BCSS Family, here are five things to know as we start a new month!
 

1) Lottery Application Windows

  • The BCSS Pre-K Program will begin accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Pre-K Lottery from February 2 at 8 a.m. until March 2 at 4 p.m.

  • The Arts & Innovation Magnet Program Lottery for 6th-8th graders is now open until January 30 at 4 p.m.

2) Free Mental Health Series

You have access to a free and convenient online resource to help support student well-being - the Mental Health Series Platform. Through this platform, you will find videos, live webinars, and live virtual sessions with a licensed family therapist.

 

3) Report Suspicious Activity

Submit an anonymous safety tip or concern 24/7 through our new app called STOPit. You can download the app or click the image to use the online form. Select the school or Barrow County School System to begin.
 

4) ParentSqaure

Barrow County School System is now using the ParentSquare mass communications platform to connect with families, students, and staff. New websites are also coming soon!

With ParentSquare you’ll be able to:
  • Receive all district, school and classroom communication via email, text, and/or app - you choose!
  • Choose to receive information as it comes or all at once with a daily digest at 6pm. (Urgent updates will be sent immediately.)
  • Keep up with events happening at your student's (or students') schools all in one place and RSVP for events.
  • Easily sign up to volunteer and/or bring items for school events.
  • Securely receive important student documents.
  • Communicate in your preferred language
  • Direct message teachers, staff and other parents
  • Sign forms & permission slips


 

5) 2026-2028 Student Calendars

The Barrow County Board of Education approved the student calendars for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years at their December 2 meeting. Plan ahead through the link below.
